My name is Katarina and I'm the owner of Finca La Gunilla
I grew up part-time in Southern Spain and later on I completed part of my university degree in Barcelona. Ever since, I’ve been in love with the country’s culture, people, food, and landscape. I have returned as often as possible. My dream was to one day buy a country house with dogs, horses, and chickens and run a small bed and breakfast. Maybe as a pensioner, I thought….
After graduating in Marketing economics, my passion for people, language, and culture led me early-on into the wine industry where I discovered my love for wine. I decided to become a Sommelier. As a brand manager for several big wine brands in Sweden, I had the opportunity to travel the world, work with my interests, and taste many amazing wines.
But sometimes life throws you a curveball that causes you to stop and question your lifestyle and choices. It took a very long and painful journey to become a mother on my own, losing my beloved mother, Gunilla, who was my rock during the process. I realized that life is here and now and I had a dream that I needed to make a reality.
I started to look for houses around Barcelona. There it was, my new home – future Finca La Gunilla! I took the heritage from my mother, packed up my apartment, and booked a moving company. I filled my little VW Polo with my mom’s flowers and my dearest possessions. I drove, 16 weeks pregnant, down to Spain. Noelia, my little wonder, came into the world in 2018, in the middle of renovation and construction chaos. Now renovation is finally finished and I want to open our home to you.
With my background and love for Spain and Catalonia, I want to give you unique experiences and fantastic memories to bring home. A few weeks per year, I arrange concept trips where we mix culture and wine with yoga, hiking, and language courses, among other experiences. I also happily tailor trips based on your wishes and requests. In between the adventures, you can come and stay with us, breathe, relax by the pool, and witness the incredible night-time stars. Enjoy the nature and beautiful views as you recharge your batteries. I look forward to sharing our beautiful home and country with you!
Finca La Gunilla
Finca La Gunilla is named after a special woman who, unfortunately, is no longer with us. Her beautiful vibrant spirit, warmth, and joy live on throughout our magical home. We would love to share our home with you!
Our country home is nestled on a little hill with amazing Tuscany-like views of olive trees, mountains, and the picturesque village of La Noe de Gaia. It is the perfect place to just be, to have a drink by the pool, to enjoy nature and the views, and to recharge your batteries. We are only 6 km to the ocean, have multiple UNESCO World Heritage sites nearby, and have diverse beautiful landscapes just around the corner, making Finca La Gunilla the perfect place from which to discover the rich culture and activities the area offers. There are beautiful hiking trails right in our backyard (the old GR Trail, a historic long-distance footpath, used to pass our house). We are only 10 minutes by car or an hour walk from several magical beaches, each one with its own special charm.
Experience Roman Tarragona or visit any of the 6 different wine districts that are all within 30 minutes to an hour from our home. Among those is the world famous Priorat, one of two Spanish wine districts to reach DOCa status.
Barcelona is a short train ride away and you can enjoy a day-trip (or longer) to experience the marketplace, shopping, restaurants, parks, and the other attractions Barcelona has to offer. On the quiet side, relax by the pool, enjoy yoga in our private orchard, or cook your meals in the
outside barbeque ovens.
